Tiong Bahru Market
Tiong Bahru Market is one of oldest and the top choices hawker centre with a wide array of yummy food choices. The place had been popular and opened in 1951 as Seng Poh Road Market, named after the first Chinese Municipal Commissioner , Tan Seng Poh. The market was built to hold large number of street hawkers and to served the rapidly growing community at Tiong Bahru estate.
The “temporary” market was old and in need of repair. By the 1970s, the old market had been taken consideration to be rebuild, the government had plans to expand the market for a better condition in dining in the hawker. The old market was redeveloped to a single-storey building with a triangular layout with more than one entrances for the community to access. The market was officially named Lim Liak Street Hawker Centre (Block 84A), when the whole market was revamped in 1993, it was renamed Tiong Bahru Market.
